FRESNO - Chevron U.S.A. Inc., Open Goal Project and Fresno FC will host the first-ever Chevron Soccer Academy Tournament, designed to bring high-level soccer training and STEM learning to local youth in Fresno County.
Approximately 150 boys and girls ages 9-18 from Coalinga-Huron Unified, Firebaugh, Mendota and Fresno will receive firsthand soccer insight from professional coaches and get an up-close look at what it takes to play soccer at a high level with Fresno FC and Fresno FC Ladies players.
The program will also inspire science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) learning through the science of soccer, as part of Chevron’s commitment to equipping youth with the critical skills they will need to succeed in jobs of the future.
Current professional and Fresno FC Ladies players at the clinic include: Lynn Williams, Sam Howard, Augustin Cazarez, Rony Argueta, Maricruz Chapa, Jaycee Ogden and Britney Quiroz.
Lynn Williams: Born and raised in Fresno, Lynn Williams attended Bullard High School where she was named an ESPN RISE All-American and Player of the Year by the Fresno Bee. Lynn continued her career at Pepperdine University where she was named WCC Freshman of the year and earned Soccer America Freshman All-American first team, NSCAA All-West Region second team, All-WCC Second team and WCC All-Freshman team honors. Williams was selected sixth overall by the Western New York Flash in the 2015 NWSL College Draft. In 2016, Lynn was awarded the NWSL Golden Boot for most goals scored along with the NWSL MVP and Best XI honors. In 2018, she was named to the NWSL Second XI and a finalist for MVP as she led the NC Courage to win the ICC and NWSL Championship. On the international level, Lynn earned her first cap with the U.S. Women’s National Team in 2016. Williams has amassed a total of 16 appearances and 4 goals across all competition. In 2018, she was a part of the winning SheBelieves Cup squad and was named to the 35-player provisional roster for the 2018 CONCACAF Women’s Championship.
Sam Howard: Sam played soccer at the collegiate level for Kenyon College, La Salle University and Howard University. In 2016 he went overseas to play in Sweden’s lower divisions for IFK Åmål. He made 68 appearances for the Swedish club, accruing a 48-15-5 career record that included 16 total clean sheets and was named the 2016 Goalkeeper of the Year in Sweden's third division after helping IFK Åmål win promotion to Division 2. He is currently playing for Fresno FC
Agustin Cazarez: Augustin is originally from Reseda, CA and played collegiate soccer at Saint Mary’s College. While there he won a West Coast Conference Title and was named to the WCC First-Team. Augustin spent the previous four seasons playing for Sacramento Republic FC and won the USL Cup Championship with them in 2014. He is currently a midfielder for Fresno FC.
Rony Argueta: Rony was born in Fountain Valley, California, but was raised in Costa Mesa, California, and attended Estancia High School where he played for the varsity soccer team for three years. He turned professional with USL franchise Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC, signing a contract in January 2015. In 2016, Rony was named the 2016 Back Chat Supporters Young Player of the Year and was named captain of the team for the 2017 season. He is currently a midfielder for Fresno FC
Maricruz Chapa: A Fresno, CA native, Maricruz attended Orange Cove High School. She played at Fresno City College from 2013-2015 and was named a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) second team All-American in 2014. In 2015 she transferred to Jan Jose State University where she played her junior and senior years. She is currently a member of the Fresno FC Ladies team and an Athletic Coach at Kastner Intermediate school in Fresno.
Jaycee Ogden: Jaycee was born and raised in Fowler, CA. She attended Clovis East High School where she was a 4-year Varsity starter and captain of the team. After deciding she wanted to play soccer at a higher level, she committed to a Division 1 scholarship from Fresno State University. She was captain of the team her senior year and lead the Mountain West Conference in goals scored and points, which earned her a place on the All-Conference team. After college she continued to play for Fresno Freeze, a local Semi-Professional Team, and is currently a member of the Fresno FC Ladies team. Jaycee has also coached various youth teams and is currently an assistant Varsity coach at Clovis East.
Britney Quiroz: Originally from the Central Valley, Britney graduated from Madera High School in 2007, where she led the Coyote girls soccer team in goals and assists her senior season. She then played at Fresno City College for two years and played at Cal Baptist College in Riverside for another year. She played for the San Diego Sea Lions of the Women’s Professional Soccer League for six years, winning the national championship in 2013. However, decisions in her life brought Quiroz back to Madera as a member of the Fresno Freeze. She currently plays for the Fresno FC Ladies team.
Chevron Soccer Academy is a groundbreaking partnership designed to help ensure all children have access to youth soccer at a time when income disparity can limit youth from competing in the sport they love.
